Horse roundup in the Pyrenees: 3 days from moorland to mountains
*Transport from the SNCF station included
Just back from the previous week’s roundup. For 2 days, we will be accompanying ten or so loose horses from Campoussy (600 m above sea-level) to The Llagonne (1700 m above sea-level).
After the winter transhumance we will be heading back home again to The Llagonne with our workhorses, shod and fit, the young horses to be broken in and the young stallions that have to be kept separate from the mares.
The dogs at work, the bells, loose horses playing at overtaking us…all these ingredients will be present during this ride, just as with the normal big roundup ride.
Accomodation : 2 nights in tents or out in the open.
The 2-man tents we lend are like standard « 3-place igloo» tents. In case of bad weather, we also have a large circular tent to shelter us from the wind and rain.
Food : The meals are cooked on the spot by the participants and include fruit and vegetables. The packed lunches consist of mixed salads such as salade niçoise or taboulleh and the menus are varied.
Tea-break in the afternoon.
All the healthy snacks (olives, almonds, etc.), biscuits and dried fruit, wine and pulses are organically produced. 50 % of the pork meat specialities and cheeses are produced locally (100 km maxi).
You will be taken care of right from the time we meet you to your very last day at around 6 p.m.
This includes the activity, supplies and transfers from the train station at the beginning and end of the trek.
This is a trek for riders who are comfortable in any situation.
About 6h in the saddle per day
Our horses are crosses between mares with plenty of experience in mountain trekking and pure bred Arabian stallions. Their main characteristics are surefootedness, kindness and energy.
